'Futura' is the official emblem of Milano Cortina 2026

Elegant and light as a symbol of sustainability and inclusion, “Futura” has been announced as the official emblem of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The logo, which was presented on stage at the Sanremo finale together with the alternative proposal named “Dado”, was chosen for the first time in the history of the Games through an online public poll. “Futura” triumphed, garnering around 75 per cent of the 870,000 votes received on the Milano Cortina 2026 website and App from 169 countries.  

The winning emblem, together with the Paralympics logo, were unveiled at a digital press conference streamed from the offices of the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 in Milan and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) Hall of Fame in Rome.

CONI and Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 President Giovanni Malagò, Italian Paralympic Committee President Luca Pancalli and Organising Committee CEO Vincenzo Novari presided over the event, which was attended by the new Under Secretary for Sport Valentina Vezzali.  

All the colours of the sky for the Paralympic emblem 

A strong and accessible symbol, “Futura” has been designed according to the guidance and suggestions of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). 

The Milano Cortina Paralympic emblem bursts into colour, with white becoming multi-coloured in correspondence to the physical process of refraction, where the visible light beam, on entering a prism, breaks down into its fundamental colours. The primary colours of red, blue and green are the colours of the Agitos, the symbol of the Paralympics, which in Latin means “I move”. There is strong symbolism here as the Agitos also emphasises the fact that Paralympic athletes are constantly inspiring and exciting the world with their performances: always moving forward and never giving up. 

Colour is also the main ingredient of the Aurora Borealis, a majestic natural phenomenon rarely seen below the latitudes of the far north. Yet, on rare occasions, this extraordinary nocturnal rainbow appears in the Alpine region and particularly over the Cortina Dolomites. Moreover, red, blue and green were precisely the colours of an Aurora Borealis captured in 2002 in the skies above Cortina that fill the sign of Futura, its variation dedicated to the Paralympic world.  

Futura closes its circle and ends up representing the Olympic and Paralympic Games in their entirety. From the sustainability and inclusiveness of white and transparency, to the inclusiveness and sustainability of all the colours of the sky. Different and unique for each of us.

The vivid use of the colours of the Paralympic Agitos make this an emblem that truly represents and is accessible to everyone across the Paralympic Movement.

All of us at the IPC are very excited about the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games which will play a vital role in changing global attitudes towards disability and furthering the inclusion agenda for persons with disabilities." 

Futura, the magic of a gesture 

Portrayed as a faint outline on a white background, the number 26 indicates not only the date of a momentous event that Italy is bringing to the world in the pursuit of sport, but also the year of the first Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games entirely inspired by the criteria outlined in Olympic Agenda 2020 and its New Norm. 

These Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games intend to create a unique opportunity for the country to recover from the painful ordeal of the pandemic and to ignite the passion of Italians by spreading the values of sport while, at the same time, renewing the world's passion for Italy, its territories, and its excellence. To this end, the Organising Committee plans to involve different generations and the whole country from the outset. The presentation of the emblems thus becomes the first significant step in a shared adventure that will last five years: the fascinating journey towards the Games. 

With “Futura”, the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 wanted to give a symbolic form to the founding values that inspire the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2026 (economic, social and environmental sustainability, inclusion and innovation), focusing on the theme of the fragility of our planet and emphasizing how every single small gesture, by each of us, can contribute to preserving it.
