Hu first made a name for himself at the 2015 World Championships dominating the T38 class in the absence of Australia Evan O’Hanlon, winning three gold medals.
In Doha, Qatar, Hu won the 100m (11.08), 200m (22.22) and long jump (7.13m).
At Rio 2016 he came head-to-head with defending champion O’Hanlon in the 100m. Hu smashed the Asian record in the heats, clocking 10.93, to send out a warning shot ahead of the final.
The final saw one of the biggest surprises of Rio 2016 as Hu not only beat O’Hanlon to gold but took the Australian’s world record with a sensational time of 10.74.
Two days later he broke the Paralympic record to double his gold medal tally with victory in the long jump (6.64m).
His final event of Rio 2016 was the 400m. Although he could not make it a hat-trick of gold medals, he did smash the Asian record (50.27) on his way to silver behind South Africa’s Dyan Nellie Buis.
Hu took up Para athletics in 2013.
