IPC Governing Board meeting to take place remotely

The 86th International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board meeting will take place on 9, 10, 14 and 15 December 2020 with all Board members participating via video conference.

With regards to Milano Cortina 2026, the IPC Governing Board will look to approve the sport programme for the Paralympic Winter Games. Six sports are in contention for inclusion in the Games: Para alpine skiing, Para bobsleigh, Para ice hockey, Para nordic skiing, Para snowboard and wheelchair curling.

Following a six-month stakeholder engagement programme, an updated venue masterplan for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will also be presented for approval. This optimised concept allows for budget savings, improved sustainability and adds even greater value to the Paralympic sport programme. 

Other items for approval by the Board during December’s meeting include new procedures for future General Assemblies and a new Para sport brand. 

The Board will also receive updates on preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, the ongoing Governance Review, and the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation’s (IWBF) progress in reaching Classification Code compliance. 

The IPC Athletes’ Council will provide an update on its work, including feedback from athlete focus groups that were recently held on the subject of Rule 50.

An update on the IPC’s financial results Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 and financial update FY 2020 will also be presented, as will a gender report from the Women in Sport Committee. 

The IPC will communicate key outcomes from the meeting following its conclusion on 15 December.  IPC President Andrew Parsons will then hold calls with IPC member organisations and athlete representatives between 16-18 December to provide updates on the key outcomes from the meeting and on preparations for Tokyo 2020.
