The 101st International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board meeting will take place in Madrid, Spain, this week (4-6 April) with the Spanish Paralympic Committee hosting the event.

The meeting marks the first IPC event to be held in the Madrid since the Spanish Paralympic Committee staged the IPC Membership Gathering in September 2018 which brought together more than 200 Paralympic stakeholders.

Led by President Andrew Parsons, the IPC Governing Board consists of 14 members, 12 who are elected by the IPC General Assembly every four years, as well as the Chairperson and first Vice Chairperson of the IPC Athletes’ Council.

The IPC Governing Board has full power and authority to manage the affairs of the IPC in a non-executive capacity. It aims to meet at least three times a year in person with meetings chaired by the IPC President.

Andrew Parsons, IPC President, said: “Spain has a tremendous track record for staging IPC institutional meetings and international sport events, and the IPC is extremely grateful to the Spanish Paralympic Committee for hosting this week’s Governing Board meeting.”

Alberto Duran, President of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, said: “For the Spanish Paralympic Committee, it is a pleasure and an honour to welcome the members of the highest governing body of the global Paralympic Movement, even more so in this new phase in which Spain aims to play an active role in promoting the Paralympic Movement, especially in areas such as communication, classification, and sponsorship, where we believe we can make valuable contributions for all.”
