‘Making Boccia Accessible’ held in Rwanda

The latest “Making Boccia Accessible” event in Rwanda saw continued progress, as a two-day course welcomed representatives from seven countries looking to develop their refereeing and classification skills.

In total, 18 boccia ambassadors attended the course led by Andrinne Craig from Scottish Disability Sport and Darren Thomson, a BISFed board member. Head of the Boccia International Sports Federation (BISFed) Classification Committee Elsa Matthee also shared her expertise at the event held March in Kigali.

“Making Boccia Accessible” has been supported by UK Sport, Scottish Disability Sport, the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) development arm the Agitos Foundation, and Hogan Lovells. With that support, BISFed has been able to distribute over 400 sets of boccia balls to more than 20 countries around the world and anticipate that the project has bought the game closer to over 10,000 people.
