Venue of the shooting Para sport events at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the Chateauroux Shooting Centre is a familiar range for many of the stars who will be competing from 30 August to 5 September.

Inaugurated in 2018 by the French Shooting Federation, the premier shooting sport facility is renowned for its state-of-the-art infrastructure. That same year, it hosted a World Shooting Para Sport (WSPS) World Cup, the first-ever combined World Cup of rifle, pistol, shotgun and vision impaired events. It was part of the pathway for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

The Chateauroux Shooting Centre received an additional building in 2022 to host international pistol and rifle finals. That same year, the venue hosted a WSPS World Cup for the second time.

Reflecting the Paris 2024 Games' commitment to sustainability, the centre incorporates eco-friendly practices, such as efficient water usage, renewable energy sources, and sustainable materials in its construction and operations.

Chateauroux will see 13 shooting Para sport events in the Paralympics and held 15 Olympic shooting events.

Going viral

Two of those events went viral on social media thanks to the performances of South Korea’s Kim Yeji, silver medallist in the women’s 10m air pistol, and Turkey’s Yusuf Dikec, who took his country’s first-ever medal in Olympic shooting in the mixed team 10-meter air pistol, alongside Sevval Ilayda Tarhan.

In the Paralympics, the action will kick off with three medal events on 30 August: R2 – women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1, P1 – men’s 10m air pistol SH1 and R4 – mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2.

Châteauroux is the capital of the Indre department in central France and the second-largest town in the province of Berry. One of the many beautiful attractions is the Belle Isle park located on the Indre River.

Located in the heart of the Indre department in central France, Chateauroux is a charming city with a rich cultural heritage and a welcoming atmosphere. Chateauroux dates back to medieval times and features several historical landmarks, including the Raoul Castle and the Church of Saint-Martial, which has been in existence since 1212.

The journey to the host city of Paralympic shooting takes two hours and 15 minutes by train from Paris Austerlitz. Free shuttle buses connect the train station to the Chateauroux Shooting Centre.
