The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Paralympic Movement mourn the loss of Willi Lemke, the former Special Adviser to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace (2008-2016), who passed away aged 77 years.

Lemke, who played an important role in German professional football for many years, campaigned for the global development of Para sport during his UN tenure and beyond. He was a passionate supporter of the IPC’s work, a regular attendee at the Paralympic Games and other IPC events, and repeatedly highlighted the importance of sport for people with disabilities internationally.

The IPC passes on its condolences to his family and friends at this time.
