The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons has sent his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Fakhir Ali Al-Jamaly, following the death of the Secretary General of NPC Iraq on 6 November.

Al-Jamaly, 55 - who was also President of the Iraq Para Athletics Federation – passed away at a Baghdad Hospital on Monday following kidney failure.

Andrew Parsons said: “Fakhir was a great servant to the Paralympic Movement and sport both in Iraq and around the world and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

“At this time, the thoughts and prayers of everyone in the Paralympic Movement are with his family, friends and colleagues.”

Aqueel Al-Oudah, President of NPC Iraq, said: “I have known Fakhir Ali Al-Jamaly for more than 30 years through which we vowed to uphold the name of NPC Iraq on all levels.

“Fakhir was a unique and irreplaceable sport hero despite the considerable pain he was suffering from which no one knew about. He was gallant, brave, forgiving and whose heart knew no fear spending most of his time for his beloved Paralympic Sport.”
