Ukraine was easily awarded a spot at the 2014 football 7-a-side World Championships with a first place finish at the 2013 CPISRA Continental Cup in Barcelona, Spain.

The top eight finishers from the Cup all qualified for the 2014 World Championships, meaning all of the aforementioned teams will have a shot at a the next world title prior to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Ukraine slipped away with a 1-0 victory against Brazil in the gold-medal game of the 2013 CPISRA Intercontinental Cup on Saturday (10 August) in Barcelona, Spain, thanks to their passing game and defense.

Neither team had many chances at the net, but Vitalii Romanchuk managed to score for the Paralympic silver medallists to give them the edge in the 46th minute of the match.

Brazil’s Wanderson Silva was named the tournament’s MVP, while Ukraine’s Oleksandr Devlysh won the top scorer award and teammate Konstyantyn Symsdhko won best goalkeeper.

Russia easily defeated Ireland, 4-0, in the third-place game, as they scored three goals in just five minutes in the second half to pad their already existing 1-0 lead.

Georgiy Albegov netted two goals for Russia, while Alexey Chesma and Lasha Murvandze each scored once.

The Netherlands defeated Argentina for fifth place, 2-1, with goals from Eloy Rodrigo Lugrin and Rick Rodenburg. Lars Conij scored the lone goal for Argentina.

Scotland beat the USA, 4-3, for seventh place with Blair Grynn starting the scoring surge early for the winning side and never looking back.
