Through LIVE gifting TikTok supports the IPC’s global Para sport development programmes 22 Aug 2024
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has unveiled ambitious plans with TikTok to engage global audiences in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and further the development of Para sport globally.
Since the @Paralympics TikTok account was launched in late 2020, it has amassed more than 4.4 million followers and generated nearly 2 billion video views.
For the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the IPC and TikTok built a strategic framework focused on engaging fans with more unique content than ever before, growing the IPC global audience, and providing a new and uniquely innovative way to support Para sport.
This includes:
• Outstanding sporting moments: During 12 days of sporting action, more than 400 clips of the best sporting action will be shared in the unique style the @Paralympics account has become world famous for
• LIVE content with athletes: Between now and the Closing Ceremony on 8 September, there will be close to 50 TikTok LIVE videos with leading Paralympians in and around Paris sharing their experiences of the Paralympic Games
• TikTok LIVE: Connect and support in real-time – TikTok LIVE allows viewers to have a front row seat to the Paralympics with in-the-moment content. Viewers worldwide can tune into the @paralympics account to find our exclusive Phryge Gifts during this period. LIVE videos from creators in France, the United Kingdom, and the United States will also feature these limited-time gifts. For every Phryge gift sent, TikTok will donate to support the IPC’s global Para sport development programmes, which aim to increase opportunities for persons with disabilities to experience the transformative power of sport and physical activity.
• Daily highlights: As well as a round-up of the day’s best sporting action from Paris 2024, there will be daily highlights from each of the 22 Paralympic sports.
• Para Sport explainers: Produced in partnership with Allianz, 90-second-long animated guides to each of the 22 Paralympic sports.
Mike Peters, the IPC’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We’re immensely grateful that TikTok through its LIVE platform will help raise funds which the IPC will then invest into Para sport development programmes around the world, helping to create and support the next generation of Paralympic athletes.
“TikTok has quickly established itself as the IPC’s largest social platform for engaging global audiences and we are really excited to deepen our relationship with them for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
“Engaging Generation Z and Millennials is a top priority for us, and during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games they are in for a real treat as we’re going to be showcasing a whole host of sporting action and athlete content in the unique and engaging way the @Paralympics TikTok account has become known for.
“For Paris 2024 we will be sticking to the winning content formula that has led to such global engagement – showcasing the best performances, highlighting the nuances of Paralympic sport, and featuring the ups and downs that come with being a high-performance athlete.”
