Paris 2024: TV Media Sport secure media rights in Sub-Saharan Africa

TV Media Sport has secured Paralympic broadcast rights for Sub-Saharan Africa for the second time

For the second successive Paralympic Games, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and TV Media Sport (TVMS) have concluded an agreement to broadcast the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. 

TVMS presented an exceptional assessment of its first experience on the African continent in 2021 when covering the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, managing to bring together Free to Air broadcasters from more than 30 countries.  

This major exposure for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games was made possible by encouraging all major African television partners to report on the incredible sports performances of competing Paralympians. TVMS also provided ready-to-broadcast daily highlight programmes focused on African athletes, along with expert commentary in different languages.  

“For the Paris 2024 edition, TVMS highlighted the fundamental values ​​of solidarity and inclusion of these athletes into African society,” explained Hédi Hamel, President of TV Media Sports.  

“We are proud to have been the pioneers and to have largely promoted their performances on FTA television, reaching the greatest number of viewers all over the African Continent. Our mission continues with the Paris 2024 Games.” 

Dr Mike Peters PLY, IPC Chief Executive Officer, said: “Following the success of its Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games coverage, we are delighted to renew our partnership with TVMS for Paris 2024. We are confident that Paris 2024 will be the most widely broadcast Paralympic Games in history and coverage in Africa is essential for us in achieving this. 

“Africa is a continent where the Paralympic Movement continues to grow with the IPC investing into sport development programmes to strengthen National Paralympic Committees and further increase the talent pool of athletes.   

“TV coverage of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is critically important to us for engage new audiences and showcase what’s possible when barriers are removed for persons with disabilities.” 

Among the highlights of this programming, it should be noted that the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be broadcast live, with further opportunities for each broadcast partner to also offer live coverage of events that are of special interest to their audience.
