So Yeong Jeong

So Yeong Jung failed to defend his London 2012 bronze medal in the mixed individual BC2 at Rio 2016 losing out to China’s Zhiqiang Yan.

Jeong began boccia at age 16 at school in Busan, South Korea.

In 2009, she became the first female boccia player to top the national rankings in the BC2 class in South Korea.

She and her teammates won gold in the mixed team BC1-2 at the 2010 World Championships in Lisbon, Portugal.

At London 2012, she claimed her first Paralympic medal in the mixed individual BC2, after beating China’s Kai Zhong in the bronze medal match.

She missed the 2014 Asian Para Games after sustaining impingement syndrome, caused by friction between joint tissues in her left shoulder, after the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

In 2016, Jeong and her compatriots earned a gold medal at the 2016 World Open in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Her team, however, did not obtain the same achievement at Rio 2016.
