USA’s Michael Shea put in an exceptional performance at the 2013 snowboard cross NORAM Cup event in Copper Mountain, Colorado, USA, on Sunday (3 February) to win the men’s lower limb impairment race.

USA’s Michael Shea put in an exceptional performance at the 2013 snowboard cross NORAM Cup event in Copper Mountain, Colorado, USA, on Sunday (3 February) to win the men’s lower limb impairment race.

The 30 year old beat 22 other competitors to finish in 1:46.50. His teammate Evan Strong, who won the event in Twin Bridges, California, a week previously, was just a few seconds behind. He finished in 1:48.78 after a mistake cost him valuable time on his second run. USA’s Keith Gabel was third in 1.55.83.

USA’s Marc Dervaes won the men’s upper limb impairment race in 2:12.64. Australia’s Matthew Robinson was second in 2:29.80.

The Netherlands’ Bibian Mentel once again dominated the women’s competition finishing in 1:58.61. USA’s Amy Purdy, who at 33 is 7 years Mentel’s junior, was second (2:41.60). Her teammate Heidi Jo Duce came third in 2:56.42.
