Paris 2024: Ones to Watch in Para rowing

With the countdown to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games well and truly in the final stages, our Sport Weeks provide you with the perfect guide to each of the competitions being contested in France.

To round off this week, here are the Para rowers to look out for this summer.

 

Laurent Cadot (France)

Laurent Cadot, right @World Rowing

The two-time Olympian switched to Para rowing after developing a neurological disorder. After winning world PR3 mixed double sculls bronze, he will make his Paralympic debut on home water at Paris 2024.

 

Birgit Skarstein (Norway)

The dual summer-winter sport athlete, who is the reigning Paralympic, world and European champion in the PR1 women’s single sculls, went undefeated in 2023 as she focuses on retaining her title at Paris 2024.

 

Benjamin Pritchard (Great Britain)

The double world bronze medallist narrowly missed out on the podium at his debut Paralympics at Tokyo 2020, finishing fifth overall in the PR1 men’s single sculls.

 

Roman Polianskyi (Ukraine)

The reigning double Paralympic champion in the PR1 men’s single sculls heads to Paris 2024 looking for his third successive Games gold.

 

Katie O’Brien (Ireland)

O'Brien won gold in the PR2W1x event at the 2022 World Rowing Championships. She is preparing to make her Paralympic debut in Paris.

 

Asiya Mohammed Sururu (Kenya)

She became the first female rower from Kenya to compete at the Paralympics when she debuted in the PR1 women’s single sculls at the Tokyo 2020 Games.


Jed Altschwager (Australia)

The Worlds multi-medallist transitioned from men’s to PR3 mixed double sculls to win his first world title in 2023. Paris 2024 will be his Paralympic debut. 

 

Claudia Cicero Sabino (Brazil)

The Brazilian athlete is targeting her first Paralympic medal at Paris 2024 after finishing sixth at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. 



Liu Shuang (China)

She qualified for Paris 2024 with silver in the PR2 mixed double sculls at the 2023 Worlds and will be looking to add the elusive Paralympic gold to her medal collection at her third Games.
