Frei Repeats Berlin Marathon Victory

Paralympian Heinz Frei from Switzerland took over the Berlin Marathon this past weekend, winning for the 19th time in his career.

Frei took the top position in the Men’s Wheelchair race, finishing with a time of 1:28:38. The Swiss athlete was followed by Japan’s Masazumi Soejima with a time of 1:31:43 and Poland’s Tomasz Hamerlak with a time of 1:39:32. In the Women’s Wheelchair race, Frei’s compatriot Sandra Graf also took the top position, finishing with a time of 1:39:31. Graf was followed by Great Britain’s Shelly Woods (1:40:43) and Germany’s Yvonne Sehmisch (1:55:37).

The real, Berlin Marathon attracted around one million people for its 36th edition who celebrated one of the greatest running events on the globe. Leading through both parts of the German capital from 1990 onwards the Berlin-Marathon became famous for impressive winning times, great crowd support and growing fields, and this past weekend was no exception.
