Round-robin play continued at the 2015 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Blind Football European Championships, and Great Britain have proven early that they are favourites from group A to reach the gold-medal game.

The British cruised through Day Two on Sunday (23 August), defeating Italy 4-0. It comes a day after stomping Poland 7-0 on the opening day at Hereford, Great Britain.

Up 1– 0 at halftime, the British scored two goals in quick succession through Robin Williams, who has tallied five goals in the tournament so far. Roy Turnham then made the match too far for Italy to catch up with a solo run from inside his own half, beating two Italian players and then striking hard in to the bottom left corner.

But Great Britain will be keeping a close watch on Turkey, who took a 6-0 victory over Poland on Sunday. After a 0-0 halftime score, Turkey’s Emrah Ocal scored three of his team’s first four goals and kept Poland winless in the tournament so far.

Meanwhile in group B play, defending European champions Spain defeated Greece 2-0, with goals credited to Youssef El Hadaoui and standout player Adolofo Acosta. France landed their first victory in the tournament with a 1-0 win over Belgium on Sunday.

Play continues on Monday (24 August) with Russia vs. Belgium and Greece vs. France in group-B action. Italy will face Turkey, and Germany will take on Poland in group A.
