Top Australian Para triathletes to open season

Australia’s Paralympic champion Katie Kelly will shake off the Rio 2016 rust when she takes on her first Para triathlon race since that gold medal victory.

After winning the women’s PT5 with Olympian guide Michellie Jones last September, the pair are among the ones to watch at the 2017 Davenport OTU Triathlon Oceania Championships, held Saturday (18 March) in Tasmania, Australia.

The competition is the second Para triathlon event held this season., Under the new classification system, Kelly will compete in the women’s PTVI category.

A slew of other Australians will line up on their home course.

Bill Chaffey will look to start off the season on a high note after just missing the podium in the men’s PT1 (now PTHC) on the sport’s Paralympic debut.

Kate Doughty will also get some racing in for the first time since Rio 2016, where she finished fifth in a loaded women’s PT4 field. She will take on the PTS5 category this weekend.

Bronze medallist from the 2015 World Championships Justin Godfrey will take on the men’s PTS4. Two-time Worlds medallist Kerryn Harvey is also set to line up on the course in the women’s equivalent.
