Paris 2024: Ones to Watch in wheelchair basketball

With the countdown to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games well and truly in the final stages, our Sport Weeks provide you with the perfect guide to each of the competitions being contested in France. To round off this week, here are the wheelchair basketball players to look out for when the Games open 28 August.

Mariska Beijer (Netherlands)

The veteran star has been a key figure in the Netherlands’ recent success, including back-to-back world titles and a first Paralympic gold at Tokyo 2020. Paris 2024 will be her fourth Games.

Catharina Weiss (Germany)

The two-time European and world bronze medallist leads a Germany side aiming for a podium finish in Paris after finishing fourth at Tokyo 2020.

Suiling Lin (China)

A reigning Paralympic and world silver medallist, Liu is a pivotal member of the China team who won the 2018 and 2022 Asian Para Games titles. She will compete in her third Games in Paris.

Lindsey Zurbrugg (USA)

Zurbrugg helped the USA to bronze on her Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020. She also played a key role in securing another bronze at the 2022 Worlds, scoring nine points in the medal decider.

Trevon Jenifer (USA)

The three-time Paralympian is a valuable member of the reigning men’s Paralympic, world and Parapan American champions and is chasing a third consecutive Games gold in Paris.

Philip Pratt (Great Britain)

Pratt co-captained Great Britain to silver at the 2022 Worlds where he topped the tournament standings for most assists and most steals. He will be aiming to replicate his bronze medal-winning success from Rio 2016 this time around.

Bill Latham (Australia)

The veteran Australian won silver on his Paralympic debut at London 2012 and heads to his fourth Games in Paris fresh from scoring 106 points at the 2023 Worlds.

Oscar Onrubia (Spain)
