Smyth will be hoping to retain the double world sprint title he won two years ago when he lines up in Doha later this month.

1. Smyth is the fastest para-athlete in history, and is often referred to as the Usain Bolt of Paralympics.

2. The 28-year-old has never been beaten in 10 years of Paralympic competition

3. He has run a world record in every Paralympic Games he has competed in, in both 100m and 200m.

4. The Irishman is a Goodwill Ambassador for the Religious Freedom and Business Foundation in conjunction with the United Nations Global Compact

5. In 2009 Smyth was awarded an honorary doctorate from Queen’s University Belfast.

The IPC Athletics World Championships will take place in Doha, Qatar, between 21-31 October, attracting 1,400 athletes from 100 countries.
