Teams start arriving for Lyon 2013

Brazil had a clean sweep of the women's 100m T11 final at London 2012, which was won by Terezinha Guilhermina in a new world-record time of 12.01.
“Terezinha is aiming to run under 12 seconds for the first time in the 100m, whilst Lucas wants to smash his own 100m world record. He broke it in Berlin, Germany in June but the wind was too high. Hopefully in Lyon the conditions will be perfect.”
With just days to go until the start of the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, the majority of teams will arrive in the French city on Monday (15 July).
According to event organisers 86 of the 98 competing countries will check-in to their bases today, whilst one of the first teams to arrive was Brazil who arrived last Thursday (11 July).
The Brazilians who won 18 track and field medals at London 2012, including eight golds, to finish seventh in the athletics medals table have 35 athletes and 11 guides in Lyon and are aiming for a fifth place finish.
“We arrived on Thursday and the team has settled really well,” said Brazilian team manager Ciro Winckler. “On Saturday we managed to take in the finish of the Tour de France and shared the same hotel with Team Sky which was a great experience.
“We have a number of new athletes with us here and this is their first step on the road to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
“Our aim is for some good results with our established visually impaired athletes, but we also have a number of new cerebral palsy athletes who I hope will perform well.
“The likes of established athletes such as Alan Oliveira, Terezinha Guilhermina and Lucas Prado are also here in Lyon targeting gold medals.

The 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships opens this Friday (19 July) and will feature over 1,100 athletes from 98 countries. It is the biggest gathering of international athletes since London 2012 and will be streamed live from Saturday morning via www.ParalympicSport.TV
