Get to know more about the Paris 2024 Paralympic medals
Medallists at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games took home a piece of one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. For the first time in the history of the Games, each medal was decorated with a highly symbolic and priceless piece of metal – the original iron from the Eiffel Tower.
Design Elements of the Medals
Both sides of the medal, which was created in collaboration with French jeweller Chaumet, contain a representation of the Eiffel Tower, which was built for the 1889 Universal Exhibition.
The front of the medal featured a graphic representation of the Eiffel Tower viewed from below, with the words “Paris 2024” engraved in universal braille in honour of Louis Braille, its French inventor.

The other side of the medal included the original piece of iron, cut in a shape of a hexagon. The emblem of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and the Agitos, which is the symbol of the Paralympic Movement, are engraved.
To make the medals even more accessible, each medal had distinct lines on the edges that allowed athletes to tell whether the medal is a gold, silver or a bronze.
The Physical Attributes of the Paris 2024 Medals
The original iron taken from the Eiffel Tower was used in the medals. The medals had a diameter of 9 centimetres and a thickness of 1.3 centimetres, with the gold medal weighing 542 grams.
