Nigeria put Africa on the map in Para badminton
When Mariam Eniola Bolaji took a bronze medal for Nigeria she marked an historic moment in badminton.
She became the first ever medallist of any African nation in badminton, male or female - for either the Olympic or Paralympic Games.
Bolaji has dedicated her run to the medal to her late coach Bello Rafiu Oyebanji, who died in a motor accident just months before Tokyo 2020 took place.
She beat Ukraine's Oksana Kozyna in the women's singles SL3 at La Chapelle Arena.
France win two gold medals on Pont Alexandre III bridge
France's flag bearer Alexis Hanquinquant won the men's PTS4 while compatriot Jules Ribstein took gold in PTS2 as the Para triathlon got underway.
Ribstein said he'll be back swimming in the Seine in future.
"This morning I was so present. I was thinking, 'Here we are, we will be in the Seine in a few minutes'. It's unbelievable," he said.
"I will return to the Seine, just to swim like Anne Hidalgo (the Paris mayor who swam in the Seine)."
Australian Para triathlete Lauren Parker won gold in the women's PTWC Para triathlon, crossing the finish line ahead of USA’s Kendall Gretsch.
Parker has only one recovery day before Para cycling, competing in the individual time trial H 1-3 in the Para cycling road and road race.
First gold medal for France in boccia
Aurelie Aubert and her assistant Claudine Llop Cliville win the first ever gold medal for France in boccia, after defeating Singapore's Yee Ting Jeralyn Tan 5-4 in the women's individual BC1 gold medal match at South Paris Arena 1.
"I am feeling too many emotions right now to make sense of any of them. Once I have the medal around my neck, maybe I will realise what just happened."
"The support I had today (from the crowd) was unbelievable. I was in tears after the match to see them all clap and wave the French flags with such joy."
Aubert already knows how she'll mark this moment, saying: "I will get a tattoo of the medal inked. I know exactly what the design will look like."
World record seals stunning 1500m race
Ethiopian Yayesh Gate Tesfaw broke her own world record to retain the women’s 1500m T11 title in Para athletics at Stade de France.
Tesfaw fought off a superb challenge from China’s He Shanshan in a thrilling final lap to finish in a time of 4:27.68, taking more than four seconds off the time she set at the Kobe 2024 World Championships in May and almost 10 seconds off her Paralympic record from Tokyo 2020.
Tesfaw said: “I knew I had the world record already and I am happy to break it again. I needed to do it again.
“It means even more to do it here in the Paralympic arena and at the Paralympic Games of Paris 2024.
“My country has a lot of heroic runners, so I am happy that I am now one of them and can do my country proud.”
