The Salt Lake City 2002 Paralympic Winter Games medals were created under the concept of “Mind, Body, Spirit”, in line with the motto of the Paralympic Movement at the time.
Design Elements of the Medals
The medals feature the Salt Lake City 2002 Paralympic Winter Games logo on their front side, along with the words “VIII Paralympic Winter Games” on the rim right above the logo. The name of the Games, “Salt Lake 2002 Paralympics”, is engraved under the logo.
The reverse face of the medal is quite similar in design to the front, with some notable differences. The three Tae-Geuks, used as the International Paralympic Committee symbol between 1994 and 2004, is the centrepiece. Below the logo, the sport event in which the medal was awarded is engraved, with the words “Mind”, “Body” and “Spirit” on the rim.
Physical Attributes of the Salt Lake City 2002 Medals
The Salt Lake City 2002 medals come in a black wooden box, which can also be used as a presentation stand. The medals’ blue ribbons also feature a text that reads “Mind, Body, Spirit”. The gold medal of the Salt Lake City 2002 Paralympic Winter Games weighs 251 grams.
