Beijing 2022 - Medals

Find out about the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Winter Games medals

The Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games medals are a stunning representation of China’s history and culture, while also emphasising sustainability. As part of the host city’s bid to host an eco-friendly Games, the medal cases were made of bamboo and lacquer.

Design Elements of the Medals

The front face of the medal is engraved with the Agitos, the symbol of the Paralympic Movement. With this, Beijing 2022 marked the first time the updated Agitos were used. The words “Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games” are engraved in English and in Braille.

The logo of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games is engraved on the back side of the medal with the official name of the Games engraved around it in Chinese characters. There are five rings featured on this side, which are a nod to the ancient Chinese jade concentric circle pendants. These rings are engraved with 13 points and the outermost ring shows the name of the medal event.

The ribbons of the medals are woven using the traditional mulberry silk method, with the Games’ ice and snow pattern printed along with the emblem of the Games. The red ribbon reflects the cultural characteristics of the Chinese Spring Festival and extends the festival’s warm wishes to the athletes.

The Beijing 2022 Paralympic and Olympic medals shared the same design to send a message that both Games are equally wonderful. The name “Tong Xin” was given to the medals, which meant “Together as One”.
