Berck-Sur-Mer 2018: Ni Nengah Widiasih vs. Zoe Newson
Rio 2016 medallists meet in women’s up to 45kg 23 May 2018Ni Nengah Widiasih is one of the emerging faces in the international powerlifting scene who may cause an upset at the European Open Championships in Berck-Sur-Mer, France, from 25-29 May.
In 2016 she became the first Indonesian powerlifter to win a medal at a Paralympics when she claimed bronze in the women’s up to 41kg. Two years before she also ended third at a World Championships.
Widiasih switched to the up to 45kg for Mexico City 2017 and finished fourth after lifting only 1kg less than her British rival Zoe Newson, who she will face on French soil.
Newson has been consistent throughout the years, having finished among the top 4 in all of her competitions. Most recently, she claimed bronze at both Rio 2016 and Mexico City 2017.
The 26-year-old and 2015 European silver medallist now aims to take her first continental title in Berck-Sur-Mer.
