Para athletics in numbers: Diana Dadzite

Latvia’s Diana Dadzite heads to August’s European Championships in Berlin, Germany as a triple world champion. Can she add to her medal tally at Berlin 2018? Here are the numbers behind the athlete:

10 – Ten is Dadzite’s lucky number – the tenth of September 2016 was the date she won javelin gold at the Rio 2016 Games with a world record throw. It’s also her favourite vest number in basketball.

55 – Dadzite competes in the F55 class for seated throwers.

28 – The age when Dadzite started throwing after watching her friend and countryman Aigars Apinis compete at the Lyon 2013 World Championships.

8 – Dadzite has won eight major championship medals so far, including triple gold at London 2017.

2014 – This was the year of her first major international competition – at the European Championships in Swansea, Great Britain. Dadzite finished fourth in the shot put F53/54/55 and javelin F56 – missing out on a medal by just four centimetres.
