Find out about the Seoul 1988 Paralympic medals
The Seoul 1988 Paralympic Games marked the first time the five Tae-Geuks, which were used as the Paralympic symbol from 1988 to 1994, were featured in the design of the medals.
Design Elements of the Medals
The mascots of the Seoul 1988 Paralympic Games, the Gomdoori, were featured at the centre of the medals. The name of the Games “8th Paralympic Games – Seoul 1988” is engraved, below “‘88 Seoul Korea” written in braille.
On the other side of the medal, the five Tae-Geuks were depicted above a stadium, with a laurel wreath running lengthwise.
The medals’ ribbon has colourful stripes in varying thicknesses, in white, yellow, red and blue.
