Around 300 athletes from around the world compete in the 2017 World Para Athletics Junior Championships
South Africa´s Paralympic and world silver medallist Ntando Mahlangu will be looking to complete a hat-trick on Saturday (5 August) day three of the Nottwil 2017 World Para Athletics Junior Championships in Switzerland.
The 15-year-old is fresh off a world record in the men´s 100m T42 from Friday, and is looking to add onto his medal haul in the 400m T42-47 Youth (U18).
His main rival will be Italy´s London 2017 silver medallist Riccardo Bagaini, who so far has been unable to defeat the South African, both in the 100m and 200m, in Nottwil.
The men´s shot put F42-47 Junior (U18) promises to be another exciting competition, with Germany´s Phil Grolla facing Croatia´s Erik Fabian Kaurin, Czech Republic´s Martin Adamcik, Belgium´s Simon Clinquart, Saudi Arabia´s Sultan Alzahrani and Iran´s Ali Asghar Sayyar.
Switzerland´s medal hopes remain on Andrin Deschwande, who will run the men´s 100m T33-34 Youth (U18). He will face the likes of Australia´s Nathan Donaldson and Luff Gregory, and UAE´s Humaid Alblooshi and Ahmed Nawad.
Chile´s Amanda Cerna, who won gold in the 200m and silver in the 100m, will now compete in the women´s 400m T45-T47 Junior (U20). India´s Jayanti Behera and Hong Kong´s Kei Fu Long will try to challenge her.
The women´s 100m T35-T38 Junior (U20) will feature Brazil´s double Youth Parapan American champion Suelen Oliveira as a strong contender for gold. She will need to be at her best, though, to defeat Poland´s Jagoda Kibil, Germany´s Vanessa Braun, Mexico´s Lucia Padilla and New Zealand’s Libby Leikis, among others.
