The ones to watch in the sixth day of competition at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre with mixed P4 and mixed R9 finals 09 Sep 2024
Two Paralympic champions will be crowned on day six of the shooting Para sport competition at Paris 2024 on 4 September (Wednesday).
Here you can find the complete schedule and the main stars to follow on day four at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre.
India in focus
The P4 - mixed 50m pistol SH1 final will open the action of the penultimate day at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre with India expected to finish on top.
India’s top pistol shooter Manish Narwal is the reigning Paralympic champion but won’t be competing in the event. Having worked on the mental aspect of his game, Narwal will be putting all his focus on the P1 event.
In Narwal’s absence, Azerbaijan’s Kamran Zeynalov, who pulled off his first gold medal at a major event at Lima 2023 Worlds, will be among the favourites. Among others to watch out for are promising Rudransh Khandelwal, who holds the current world record on 231.1 points set at Osijek 2023 World Cup. The youngster is also a silver medallist at Lima 2023 Worlds.
Korea’s former world champion Jo Jeongdu and another Indian youngster Nihal Singh should also be among the mix.
However, the presence of likes of Chinese stars Huang Xing and Yang Chao should make the road challenging. Chao already picked a gold (P3) and a bronze (P1) at Paris 2024.
Ristic vs de La Forest
In the only rifle event of the day, R9 - mixed 50m rifle prone SH2 final, a thrilling contest waits to enthral the fans.
Serbia’s Dragan Ristic is the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion and a former world champion. However, local favourite Tanguy de La Forest would be eager to clinch his first Paralympic medal after his impressive gold medal show at the Lima 2024 Worlds.
The 46-year-old De la Forest also holds the world record in the category on 254 points set at Al Ain 2023 World Cup. He is in top form having taken his first-ever Paralympic gold at Paris 2024 in the R5, alongside a silver in the R4.
Ukraine’s Vasyl Kovalchuk, the veteran with multiple Paralympic gold and the Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist, will also be in the medal contention.
