The highly anticipated match schedule for the sitting volleyball competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games has been officially released, promising intense action and fierce competition from 29 August to 7 September.

The excitement will commence with the opening women’s match between Brazil and Rwanda at 12:00 (CET), followed by the men’s match between Egypt and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 14:00 on 29 August. The first day will also feature a clash between Canada and Slovenia in the women’s competition at 18:00, and a men’s matchup between hosts France and Kazakhstan at 20:00.

On 30 August, both reigning Paralympic champions, USA and the Islamic Republic of Iran, will take to the court, continuing their quests for gold. The competition will span 10 days, culminating in the awarding of two gold medals in the men’s and women’s competitions.

The sitting volleyball events will be held at the North Paris Arena, located in the Villepinte Exhibition Centre in Seine-Saint-Denis. This venue will also host the preliminary rounds of the boxing events and fencing ranking round of the modern pentathlon event during the Olympic Games.

The sitting volleyball competition will feature eight teams in both the men’s and women’s categories, each having qualified through the World Championship, zonal events, World Cup and the Final Paralympics Qualifier.

The format includes a preliminary round and a single-elimination phase, totalling 36 matches. The preliminary round will see the eight teams divided into two pools (A and B) of four teams each. Each team will play the three other teams in its pool. Rankings will be based on the number of victories, with tie-breakers determined by points gained, set quotient, point quotient, and head-to-head results.

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals, with the winners competing for the gold medal and the losers vying for the bronze. Teams finishing third in their pools will compete for 5th or 6th place, while fourth-placed teams will play for 7th or 8th place.
