"We are thrilled about Prince George’s community’s excitement for this World Para Nordic Skiing Championships, the first to take place in Canada."

The competition schedule for the 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships has been confirmed following a site inspection of Prince George, Canada.

The biathlon sprint will be the first event contested on 16 February, followed by cross-country middle distance (17 February), biathlon individual (19), cross-country sprint (20), biathlon middle distance (22), cross-country relays (23) and cross-country long distance (24).

The site inspection on 22 and 23 June included meetings with the Prince George 2019 Organising Committee, visits to the competition venue, hotel facilities and the Prince George Civic Centre where the Opening, Closing and Award Ceremonies will be held.

Head of World Para Snow Sports Dimitrije Lazarovski said: “Preparations are well underway and we are thrilled about Prince George’s community’s excitement for this World Para Nordic Skiing Championships, the first to take place in Canada.

“The world’s best Nordic skiers will have another golden opportunity to showcase their talent in a world-class competition only a year after delivering fantastic performances at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

“As the scale of the World Championships continues to increase, with more broadcasters and media attention, and better organisational standards, we expect Prince George 2019 to surpass all previous editions. This major competition will also help further grow the sport ahead of Beijing 2022.”

Prince George 2019 will run from 16-24 February, and is the sixth edition of the World Championships.

Finsterau, Germany, hosted the last edition in February 2017.
