USA beats Canada to take fourth consecutive Paralympic gold
Defending champions trash North American rivals for the second time in Beijing to take fifth-ever Para ice hockey title 13 Mar 2022
Team USA defended its Paralympic gold in a rematch of the PyeongChang 2018 final against Canada on Sunday, 13 March.
The final result was a repeat of the opening game of the Games with USA beating Canada 5-0 to take a fourth-consecutive Paralympic title and fifth overall.
LAROCQUE'S MISTAKE
Canada started the game better and had eight shots on goal in the first period compared to three from Team USA. But the Canadians failed to capitalize on their chances while the defending champions scored two goals in a span of 25 seconds to take the lead early in the game. B
eing shorthanded, Declan Farmer and Brody Roybal stunned Canadian defence and turned the game into USA's favour.
Farmer scored after a great solo performance, while Roybal took advantage of Dominic Larocque's mistake.
Roybal scored his second goal at the start of the second period with captain Josh Pauls getting on the scoresheet in the 23rd minute to confirm the victory.
Declan Farmer sealed the deal with an assist by Roybal and Pauls in the third period.
"It's really hard to put it into words. To battle back like we did, fight through those penalties, to score two short-handed goals in the first period, this team showed that we can battle back through adversity whether it's in or out of games," said Pauls.
"This team is just so mentally resilient and it's such an honour to be part of this group."

Goalie Jen Lee was outstanding in the final against Canada recording 16 saves.
China finished third winning the bronze-medal game on Saturday (12 March) against South Korea (4-0). It was China's first international medal.
