Vote for August’s Allianz Athlete of the Month

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has revealed the shortlist for August’s Allianz Athlete of the Month, and the public can now vote for the winner on www.paralympic.org.

The nominations are:

Claire Cashmore, GBR, triathlon

Dethroned compatriot Lauren Steadman with a home-stretch kick for her first career world title in the women’s PTS5 at the 2019 Grand Final.

Joyce de Oliveira, BRA, table tennis

Won all matches at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games, claiming gold in the singles (class 4) and team events (class 2-5), and therefore earning Brazil a qualification slot for Tokyo 2020. 

Leani Ratri Oktila, INA, badminton

Completed an outstanding season in singles play by avenging her 2017 loss to China’s Cheng Hefang in the women’s singles SL 4 and securing her first World Championship gold.

Peter Pal Kiss, HUN, canoe

Sixteen-year-old thrilled the home crowd by beating the 2018 world champion Esteban Farias of Italy by 0.75 seconds to win the men’s KL1 world title.

Qu Zimao, CHN, badminton

Teenager won double gold at the Para Badminton World Championships, capturing his first singles title in the men’s WH 1 and then adding the mixed doubles WH 1-2.

The public has until 12:00 (CEST) on Wednesday (11 September) to vote for the athlete they want to be the Allianz Athlete of the Month for August 2019 via the International Paralympic Committee homepage.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and International Federations (IFs).

The 2019 winners are:

January – Jeroen Kampschreur, NED, alpine skiing

February – Yujie Li, CHN, taekwondo

March – Lisa Bunschoten, NED, snowboard

April – Michael Roeger, AUS, athletics

May – Koji Sugeno, JPN, wheelchair tennis

June – Antoni Ponce, ESP, swimming

July – Silvia Biasi, ITA, sitting volleyball
